Anica Yoo Concludes Outstanding Career

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Anica Yoo concluded a four-year college career with her name plastered all over the Oregon State record book and one of only two Beaver golfers to advance to the NCAA National Championships as an individual.

Yoo, a native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, wrapped up her Oregon State career first all-time in rounds played (138), second in scoring average (75.66) and fifth in top-10 finishes (8).

On Oregon State’s single-season scoring list, Yoo is first (74.71 in 2014-15), fourth (75.12 in 2013-14), 13th (76.29 in 2012-13) and 18th (76.51 in 2011-12). She had five top-10 finishes in her senior campaign, which is tied for the second most in school history, and 15 career under-par rounds.

Yoo shot a pair of 4-under 68’s this past season to tie the Oregon State single-round record and set the three-round school record with an impressive 4-under 212 at the NCAA Regionals in San Antonio, Texas that helped her earn a berth to the NCAA Division I Women‘s National Golf Championships.

She finished the NCAA National Championships in a tie for 45th place, the highest-ever finish by an Oregon State golfer, bettering the tie for 48th place by Kathleen Takaishi at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., in 1999.

“We couldn’t be more proud of Anica the way she represented Oregon State this past week at the National Championship,” Oregon State head coach Sammie Chergo said. “Her finish is the best in Oregon State women’s golf history, ahead of Kathleen, and she was only the second OSU player ever to play the National Championship.

“We couldn’t be more proud of her finish -- she came up a tiny bit short -- but competing against the best players in the country she made Oregon State proud and represented herself very, very well. She’ll go down in the record books as the best golfer, I believe, in Oregon State history. She competed with pride and passion for her university, for her coaches and for her teammates.

“We wish her the very best as she moves forward in finishing her degree and representing Oregon State on a different level with her enthusiasm, charisma and work ethic. Everyone knows Anica Yoo and I know that she’ll be a wonderful ambassador for Oregon State and our women’s golf program moving forward.”
