Cordes Voted Second Team All-American

OKLAHOMA CITY – California senior Cheyenne Cordes is one of 55 players across the country selected as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American, the association announced Wednesday. Cordes was voted a second team outfielder.

The Golden Bear standout from Fairfield, Calif., helped the Golden Bears to a 39-18 record in 2015 as Cal claimed its 29th NCAA Softball Tournament berth in program history. Along the way, Cordes amassed a school-record 76 RBIs, topping the old record of 60 set by three-time All-American Valerie Arioto, and led her squad with 16 home runs and 10 doubles while batting .372. Despite playing shortstop for the first three years of her Cal career, Cordes transitioned to the outfield for her senior season, where she played errorless defense through conference action. She turned in 11 game-winning hits and eight game-winning runs with 21 multi-hit games and 23 multi-RBI games in 2015, including four games of 4 RBIs or more. Among Cal’s single-season records, she ranks fourth for total bases (126) and fifth for home runs accumulated in 2015. She ranked second in the Pac-12 and sixth in the nation for RBIs.

Cordes finish her career third in program history for RBIs (184) and total bases (411), fifth for home runs (46) and sixth for runs scored (157).

The honor caps off Cordes’ already impressive list of accolades from 2015. On Wednesday, she was named to the Senior CLASS Award Second Team after being selected a top 10 finalist for the award. Cordes earned All-Pac-12 First Team and Pac-12 All-Defensive nods, and opened the season on the USA Softball Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List. In April, she was drafted 16th overall by the NPF’s Pennsylvania Rebellion.

This is Cordes’ first All-American selection. She was named to the All-Pacific Region First Team in 2015 and 2014, and was a Second Team selection in 2013.
