UCLA Track and Field Heads to NCAA West Prelims

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track & field team will send 32 athletes to compete in the NCAA West Prelims, hosted by the University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The event will begin on Thursday, May 28 and conclude on Saturday, May 30.

Action begins each day at 10 a.m. PT with the field events. Running events start at 2:30 p.m. PT Thursday, 3 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.

Athletes who rank among the top 48 in their respective event earn berths into the NCAA West Preliminary Round. The best 24 relay times also advanced to NCAA prelims.

Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West prelims will qualify for the NCAA Championships.

UCLA enters the meet with seven athletes ranked in the top 10 in the region in their respective events.

The men’s shot put paces the Bruins with junior Nicholas Scarvelis and freshman Braheme Days. Scarvelis is ranked second in the meet while Days follows in fourth. Also in the throws, senior Ida Storm checks in at fifth in the hammer while senior Alec Faldermeyer is seventh in the men’s event.

Senior Zibby Boyer leads a UCLA pair looking to advance as she ranks fourth in the region. Fellow senior Alexis Walker is just outside of the top 10 with the No. 13 ranking.

Freshman Jessie Maduka ranks seventh in the long jump while on the track junior Nick Hartle is seventh in the 800m.

The NCAA Championships will be held at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The championships will be held June 10-13.
