WSU Represented at U18 European Championships

PULLMAN, Wash. – Maria Kostourkova, incoming freshman on the Washington State women's basketball team, will be competing in the upcoming 2015 FIBA U18 European Championship, July 30-Aug. 9, in Celje, Slovenia.

Kostourkova, a 6-foot 4-inch center, will compete for Portugal in the Division A championship. The Portuguese will face Poland, Russia, and Spain in group play, before advancing to the knockout stage of the competition.

Kostourkova recently competed in the U20 European Championship earlier this summer. While limited to 20 minutes per game, Kostourkova averaged 9.3 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game, to lead the team to a sixth-place finish. The incoming freshman also recorded two double-doubles in nine games, while shooting .449 (35-for-78) from the floor.

Fellow incoming freshman Borislava Hristova competed in Division B of the U20 European Championship. Competing for Bulgaria, Hristova led the European championship with 23.7 points per game, while pulling in 8.8 rebounds per game, and notched four double-doubles in nine games. Bulgaria finished seventh in the Division B championship.
