RADFORD, Va. -- The Washington State volleyball team (1-1) tallied a sweep Friday night with a 25-18, 25-17, 26-24 win over Elon (0-1) at the Radford Highlander Invitational tournament held at the Dedmon Center.

WSU's Kyra Holt and McKenna Woodford combined for 26 kills. Holt, a junior, had 14 kills, hit .222 and added seven digs and one ace. Woodford, a freshman, had 12 kills, hit .370, had seven digs, one ace and two blocks. Freshman Taylor Mims had seven kills while hitting .600, and led the match with four blocks. Kate Sommer had 17 digs. Haley MacDonald had match-high totals of 39 assists and four aces. The Cougars hit .270 for the match and six players contributed to the team's 10 service aces.

Elon's leaders included Megan Gravley with nine kills, Morgan Manor with 13 digs, Catherine Head with six kills and three blocks, Sydel Curry with 20 assists. The Phoenix hit .253 for the match and tied WSU with five team blocks. Elon did not land a single ace in the three sets.

“Offensively we picked it up quite a bit. McKenna Woodford definitely stepped up and that is what we have been seeing out of her at practice. Really proud of the way she responded and came out firing,” WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said. “We talked to her about relaxing and not press too hard but do what she's used to doing. She did that and did a great job tonight. I really liked Taylor Mim's aggressiveness at the end of the match and what we needed from her. That's what we'll continue to see from all the freshmen as they get more comfortable not only with each other but playing college volleyball.”

WSU wraps up play at the Radford Highlander Invitational Saturday morning at 6 a.m. PT, meeting East Tennessee State (0-1) at the Dedmon Center.
