Three Huskies Land On Baseball America's Top WCL Prospect's List

Incoming Washington freshmen pitcher Joe Demers, shortstop AJ Graffanino and catcher Willie MacIver were all ranked among the West Coast League's Top 10 Prospects by Baseball America. The Huskies were the only university to have three prospects listed among the top 10.

Demers, a right-hander out of College Park High School in the Bay Area, was Baseball America's No. 2 prospect on the list. The 2015 California Gatorade State Player of the Year went 1-1 with a 2.07 ERA in 30 1/3 innings for the Walla Walla Sweets. Demers was a a three-time gold medalist with USA Baseball and was projected as a top Major League Draft pick before firming up his commitment to join the Huskies this fall.

Graffanino was rated the No. 6 prospect on BA's list. He hit .300 this summer and impressed with his glove for the Cowlitz Black Bears. He was a 26th round draft pick by the Indians this summer and is the son of 13-year major leaguer Tony Graffanino.

MacIver was the No. 10 prospect on BA's list. He was the battery mate for Demers at College Park High School and was also his summer teammate in Walla Walla. He hit four doubles for the Sweets and showed plus power. He also drew rave reviews for his work ethic and leadership skills.

All three will report on Sept. 20 to the University of Washington for fall baseball with the first day of practicing beginning Sunday, Sept. 27.
