Pac-12 Announces Tennis Players of the Week
SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today that Mitch Stewart of WASHINGTON was named Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week and Desirae Krawczyk of ARIZONA STATE was voted Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the action of Jan. 11-17.
Stewart (Federal Way, Calif.) picked up his third and fourth singles victories of the season last weekend. The No. 84 player in the nation, Stewart was victorious against Morgan Mays of UC Santa Barbara 6-1, 6-2, but the team dropped the decision 4-3. The sophomore then knocked off George Goldhoff of Texas, 6-3, 6-3, which helped the team to a 4-3 win over No. 18 Texas. It is his first-career weekly accolade and the 12th all-time for Washington.
Krawczyk (Palm Desert, Calif.) went undefeated over the weekend to win the Palm Springs Invitational. It is the second-straight win for Krawczyk after she won the Thunderbird Invitational in November. The senior beat Stanford's Naomi Rosenberg 6-1, 6-1 and then went on to face her teammate Alexandra Osborne and win 6-4, 6-4. Krawczyk then faced three ranked opponents and earned three wins, beating No. 20 Taylor Davidson of Stanford (6-4, 6-4), No. 64 Lauren Marker of Arizona (6-3, 6-4) and No. 18 Cat Harrison of UCLA (6-1, 5-7, 6-3). It is the first-career weekly honor for Krawczyk and the 12th all-time for the Sun Devils.
