Pac-12 Announces Baseball Players of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today Nick Madrigal of OREGON STATE was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Tristan Beck of STANFORD was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the action during the week of Feb. 15-21.

Madrigal (Elk Grove, Calif.) went 4-for-4 in his collegiate debut against Ball State in the season opener and he also went 2-for-4 on Sunday against Minnesota while driving in three runs. His final RBI, in the eighth, drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning. Also drove in a run via a sacrifice fly. The freshman was tied for Oregon State’s lead in hits with seven and led the team with six runs batted in through its first three games. Five of his six runs batted in came with two outs. It is hist first-career weekly accolade and the 66th all-time for the Beaver program.

Beck (Corona, Calif.) became just the second Stanford freshman since Mike Mussina in 1988 to start Opening Day for the Cardinal. He shut out the 22nd-ranked Cal State Fullerton Titans in 6.1 innings and allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out two. He earned the win as Stanford held on for a 2-0 victory. It is Beck's first-career weekly honor and the first for Stanford since May 27, 2013 when Mark Appel was honored. Stanford has 81 all-time weekly pitcher accolades, the most in league history.
