Pac-12 Announces Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Month

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today Ryan Murphy of CALIFORNIA was named Pac-12 Men's Swimmer of the Month for the second-straight month and Collin Pollard was voted Men's Diver of the Month for the second time this year for February action.

Murphy (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) won all four individual races he competed in for the month of February and took first in three of the four relays he was a part of. He won the 200 IM against CSU Bakersfield with a time of 1:48.17 and the 200 medley relay team won with a time of 1:29.55. Against USC, Murphy's time of 45.85 was good for a first-place finish in the 100 back. He also won the 100 free in 43.86. The Golden Bears' 200 medley relay team won with a time 1:25.39. Their 200 free relay team clocked a time of 1:20.36, good for a runner-up finish. Murphy won the 100 free in the meet against Stanford with a time of 43.95. Murphy and his teammates in the 200 medley relay took first place in 1:25.98. This is Murphy's second-straight monthly accolade and the second of his career. California has garnered nine all-time monthly honors.

Pollard (San Jose, Calif.) completed his conference career with his best-ever Pac-12 Championships performance. He won his first career Pac-12 title by capturing the platform title with 427.70. He also set a career-best with a second-place finish on 1-meter (402.15) and finished fifth on 3-meter (357.40) to secure Pac-12 Diver of the Meet honors. He completed his Pac-12 career having reached the finals in all 12 of his attempts. Pollard also won the 1-meter springboard in both of USC’s wins over Cal and Stanford as the Trojans swept their Bay Area rivals for the first time since 1997. Pollard earned his second monthly of the season and of his career. USC now has five all-time monthly honors.
