Pac-12 Announces Tennis Players of the Week Athletics

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today that Max de Vroome of USC was named Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season while CALIFORNIA's Maegan Manasse was voted Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the third time this year for action during the week of March 28 - April 3.

de Vroome (Vught, Netherlands) was in fine form in leading the Trojans to two important Pac-12 victories over Cal and Stanford. The captain got a doubles win against Cal’s Goransson/Griffith to start the day and would later come through with the match-clinching singles victory on a gutsy three-set comeback to beat Cal’s No. 28 Florian Lakat 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 on court one. The next day, de Vroome’s doubles match was suspended, but he posted a singles win for the Trojans later. The No. 25-ranked de Vroome served up a 6-3, 7-5 upset win over Stanford’s No. 6 Tom Fawcett to lift the Trojans to a 2-1 lead against the Cardinal on the way to a final 6-1 USC win. de Vroome has three all-time weekly accolades and USC has 48.

Manasse (Redondo Beach, Calif.) now has five all-time weekly accolades, one of only six athletes in Conference history with five or more weekly honors. The junior won twice in Berkeley at court-one singles, including defeating Stanford’s Carol Zhao for the first time, to lift No. 1 California to a 17-0 record. Against No. 38 Oregon on April 1, the seventh-ranked Golden Bear won 5-0 over Alyssa Tobita, when the latter retired with an injury, as Cal beat the Ducks to improve its Conference record to 5-0. Two days later in a non-conference matchup with the Cardinal, Manasse beat the 59th-ranked Zhao, 7-5, 6-4, to clinch the Bears’ eventual 4-3 victory over Stanford in the Big Slam at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Manasse now has a 21-9 singles record on the season. California has the most weekly accolades in Conference history now with 36, passing USC at 35.
