Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times analyzes USC’s decision to hire Lynn Swann as its new AD, writing that the Trojans stayed “inside the box.” Meanwhile, Ted Miller thinks hiring Lynn Swann is a risk for USC and considers this an “outside-the-box hire… that is decidedly inside USC’s box.”

Utah

The Associated Press writes that Jakob Poeltl made the right move by staying in school for a second year before declaring for the NBA Draft, which he did Wednesday. Larry Krystkowiak said that Poeltl is a “poster child for what it’s like to stick around for another year.”

Washington

The WNBA Draft is Thursday afternoon (4 p.m. PT/5 MT, ESPN2), and Percy Allen tells us how Talia Walton boosted her WNBA Draft stock following a sizable slump during the season. She was lights out during the Pac-12 and NCAA tournaments and will be in attendance at the draft.

California

The family of Ted Agu was paid $4.75 million to settle a wrongful-death lawsuit with Cal. Agu died two years ago shortly after a conditioning workout.

Stanford men’s basketball signed Kodye Pugh, a consensus top-100 recruit, on Wednesday. The 6’8 forward is from Baltimore and played prep ball at Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J.
