PLEASANTON, Calif. – USC holds a two-stroke lead over the competition on day one of the Pac-12 Women’s Golf Championship at Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, Calif.

The entire USC golfers shot under par on the first day as the Trojans posted a score of 10-under to lead the Pac-12 Championship giving them a 2-shot lead moving into day two.

“That’s a great start for our girls after round one. It’s great to be leading,” USC Coach Andrea Gaston said. “We still have to take a conservative approach. I think you can’t take everything for granted.”

ARIZONA freshman Haley Moore leads the individual competition. Haley made her debut memorable by shooting 6 birdies on day one and posted a 6-under 66. Moore captured her season low in the first round, tying the tournament low from the 2005 Pac-12 Championship held at Ruby Hill.

“I was playing really well today," Moore said. " I got off to a solid start and that just really got me into the groove.”

USC junior Tiffany Chan recorded a five-under 67 and placed herself just one shot off the lead. WASHINGTON’S Ying Luo posted a four-under 68 to edge ARIZONA STATE’s Monica Vaughn (69) in third. 11 golfers tie to round out the top 5, shooting a 70 on the day.

USC led the team race after day one with a 10-under 278, with UCLA four-strokes behind at six-under 282. Both teams had at least two individual players in the top 20 through the first day. ARIZONA STATE shot 285 to control third and three teams are tied for fourth to round out the top 5 going two-under par.
