Ice's Double Wins It In The 11th

May 04, 2016 | Baseball

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Logan Ice drilled a 3-2 pitch off the wall in left for a run-scoring double to send the 11th-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 5-4 win over Seattle in 11 innings Tuesday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

With Nick Madrigal on first after a two-out single, Ice battled for seven pitches against Seattle reliever Grant Gunning. Ice took the eighth pitch from the righty, and doubled halfway up the 14-foot wall in left. Madrigal, who was running on the pitch, easily scored from first, ending the more than four-hour game against the now 28-16 Redhawks.

The double was Ice's fourth hit of the game, tying a season and career high for the junior. He doubled in the first, and singled in the fifth and ninth before capping his night with the game winner.

His four-hit effort highlighted Oregon State's night offensively. The Beavers (29-12) tallied 15 hits against six Seattle pitchers. Christian Donahue recorded three hits and two RBI, while Trever Morrison went 2-for-5. Madrigal's single in the 11th, meanwhile, extended his hit streak to 12 games; he's two shy of tying his season long.

Max Engelbrekt scattered three hits and a run in three innings of relief to pick up his second win of the season. He walked two and struck out three in a 49-pitch outing.

Seattle's Gunning was charged with the loss after allowing four hits and a run in 2 2/3 innings. He is now 2-2 on the season.

The Beavers started the game's scoring with four in the fourth inning. Cadyn Grenier doubled home two, then scored when Donahue singled to right, giving OSU a 4-0 advantage.

OSU held the Redhawks off the board until the seventh when Seattle scored two. Brock Carpenter hit a solo home run to start the eighth, then watched as Griffin Andreychuk drove in the game-tying run in the ninth.

Neither starter figured in the decision. Oregon State started Jordan Britton, who allowed five hits in four scoreless innings. His counterpart, Jake Prizina, was relieved after four innings, where he allowed seven hits and four runs.

The Beavers now hit the road for a three-game series at Arizona that opens Friday at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson. First pitch on Friday's opener is set for 7:05 p.m. PT. It can be seen live on Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Oregon and by visiting Pac-12.com/Live (subscription required).
