Pac-12 Announces Baseball Players of the Week

May 30, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. of UTAH was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Luke Heimlich of OREGON STATE was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for action between May 23 - 29.

Keirsey (San Diego, Calif.) played a pivotal role in Utah winning the series over Washington and claiming the Pac-12 title. He hit .467 (7-of-15) over three games including going 7-for-10 in a pair of must-win games for the Utes with two doubles, an inside-the-park homer and seven RBI. The freshman went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored in game two versus the Huskies, a must-win game after dropping game one. The freshman led off the game with a hit and scored a run, hit a two-run inside the park homer in the fourth inning, which gave Utah a 5-4 lead at the time and doubled in Utah’s seven-run seventh inning with the bases loaded, driving in two runs to give Utah a four-run advantage. In the rubber game, Keirsey went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. He led off the game with a hit and scored on a wild pitch for Utah’s first run of the game. He started the game 3-for-3, which included a two-RBI single in the third. He then hit another RBI single in the eighth inning and also reached base when he was HBP in the 7th. This is the first-career honor for Keirsey, the second of the season for Utah and the third all-time for the program.

For the second-straight week and the third time this season, an Oregon State Beaver has been named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week. Heimlich (Puyallup, Wash.) threw his first-career complete game, a shutout of UCLA in the regular season finale on Sunday. He struck out a career-high eight and held the Bruins to five hits and no walks. For the game, UCLA was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, and 1-for-9 with runners on base. The Bruins put their leadoff batter on base just once. Heimlich only allowed two UCLA batters to reach base in the last four innings and only three reached in the first five. The win pushed Heimlich’s record to 7-4 on the year. This is the first honor of Heimlich's career and the 80th all-time for the Beavers.
