Pac-12 Men's Soccer back on the pitch for 2016

UCLA Athletics

• The 2016 Pac-12 men's soccer season begins on Friday, August 26 with all six teams competing. The matchup between reigning NCAA Champion STANFORD and Penn State will appear on Pac-12 Network that day.

• The Pac-12 claims the preseason top-ranked team according to the NSCAA Coaches poll with Stanford sitting atop the list with 20 first-place votes. UCLA also made the top 25 at No. 16.

• For the seventh-straight season, the Pac-12 Conference men’s soccer coaches voted UCLA to win the 2016
regular season. The Bruins edged out Stanford, which was No. 2 in the polling. WASHINGTON followed in third, CALIFORNIA in fourth, and SAN DIEGO STATE finished just ahead of OREGON STATE.

2015 Pac-12 Freshman of the year Jose Hernandez of UCLA is among the 14 players with All-Conference honors returning to Pac-12 rosters this season. That list includes first team members, UCLA's Seyi Adekoya and Abu Danladi, Nick Lima and Christian Thierjung of California, and Timmy Mueller of Oregon State competing this season.

Twenty-eight players from NCAA Division I schools around the country have been marked as potential contenders for the 2016 Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer, presented annually to one male and one female athlete. Stanford’s Jordan Morris took home the honor last season. This year, the Pac-12 has two representatives on the list: UCLA’s Jose Hernandez and Abu Danladi.

Two Pac-12 teams earned berths to the 2016 NCAA Tournament with Stanford taking home the national championship for the first time in program history. The back-to-back Pac-12 Champions defeated Clemson, 4-0, to claim the national crown in the largest margin of victory in the history of the title match. UCLA finished the 2015 season 11-9-1, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Pac-12 Network will broadcast 36 matches in 2016. UCLA alumnus and former MLS player Cobi Jones will continue to cover all the action on the Networks alongside analysts Christopher Sullivan, Kyndra de St, Aubin, Alyson Wagner, and Kelly Gray. Rich Cellini, Troy Clardy, JB Long, Christian Miles, Ann Schatz, Neil Sika, Aaron Heinzen, Mark Rogondino, and Rich Burk will be on men’s soccer play-by-play duties.
