- The Pac-12 has 56 former student-athletes on NBA opening day rosters. The 2016-17 NBA season opens Tuesday, Oct. 25 and Pac-12 member institutions have representation on 26 of the 30 NBA teams. The Pac-12 had five players taken in the latest NBA draft, including an NCAA-best three lottery picks, and have had 28 players selected over the last four years.
From a program perspective, the Pac-12 is tied with the ACC and SEC with three teams among the top 10 programs with the most former student-athletes in the NBA. UCLA leads the Pac-12 and is fifth in the country with 13 former Bruins on NBA rosters, ARIZONA is second in the Conference and sixth in the nation with 12, and WASHINGTON is third in the league and tied for ninth nationally with eight.
In a conference comparison, the Pac-12 has the third-most players on NBA rosters, trailing only the ACC's 77 and the SEC's 61. The Big Ten has 40 former players in the NBA, the Big 12 has 34 and the Big East has 28.
The Toronto Raptors, runners-up in the Eastern Conference last season, will debut with s
ix former Pac-12 student-athletes on their roster, the highest number of conference athletes on a single team.
Nine NBA teams feature three former Pac-12 student-athletes on their rosters, including the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers, both Western Conference finalists in the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder, and playoff teams Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs.
