Roundup: Coach T will drive the bus in Eugene
Oregon has hired Willie Taggart as its next head coach, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy and linked here by Yahoo! Sports. The former Stanford running backs coach under Jim Harbaugh has been a head coach at Western Kentucky and South Florida, leading USF to a 10-2 mark in 2016. Now that he’s been named head coach at Oregon, I finally have reason to post this “let Coach T drive this bus” video that the South Florida athletics department posted three years ago. This is the best thing you’ll see all day.
In this article for the Stanford athletics website, running back Christian McCaffrey announces that he is entering the NFL Draft and explains his reasons for doing so. Other news in this post is that he will indeed play in the Sun Bowl against North Carolina. Best of luck to Christian- it was a helluva three years on The Farm.
Former Colorado running back and Heisman trophy winner Rashaan Salaam was found dead Monday night in a park in Boulder. He was 42.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that Oregon State outside receivers coach Brent Brennan has been named the head coach at San Jose State for his first head-coaching gig. Welcome to the 408, Brent.
How about this? Washington State men’s basketball plays Idaho Wednesday night, and Wazzu head coach Ernie Kent will start the game on Idaho’s bench as part of Kent donating $2,000 at a preseason auction during the Coaches vs. Cancer Gala in Spokane (Jacob Thorpe on the link). Great gesture off the court, and on the court, the Cougs could certainly use a win.
Arizona men’s basketball defeated UC Irvine 79-57 Tuesday night for the team’s 38th consecutive non-conference home win (Pac-12 Networks highlights).
Utah men’s basketball squeaked one out against Utah Valley 87-80 Tuesday night, needing to erase a late deficit to pull it out (Pac-12 Networks highlights).
Arizona State got trounced by Purdue 97-64 at the Jimmy V Classic Tuesday night. The Sun Devils had a 10-9 lead but it was all downhill from there.
It was close pretty much the whole way through, but Cal beat Princeton 62-51 in the Pearl Harbor Invitational Tuesday behind 15 points from Charlie Moore. This kid’s a scorer.
Matt Norlander of CBS Sports believes that Markelle Fultz is the best freshman in the country right now. Dude is averaging 22.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.6 assists to go along with 2.1 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. That line is wild.
Conquest Chronicles gives us some highlights and reflections on USC women’s soccer’s national championship run. The Trojans defeated Georgetown 1-0 in the College Cup semis and downed West Virginia 3-1 in the finals en route to their second national championship.
Clay Fowler of InsideUCLA opines that beating Kentucky legitimized UCLA men’s basketball. Tough to argue that.
