Eubanks Leads Beavers With Double-Double

January 21, 2017 | Men's Basketball

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State sophomore center Drew Eubanks scored a game-high 22 points and blocked a shot in his 15th consecutive game but it was not enough as the Beavers fell 69-58 to California on Saturday night before a Gill Coliseum crowd of 4,945.

Battling a thigh contusion, Eubanks was 9 of 15 from the field, 4 of 6 from the line and added a game-best 10 rebounds and two blocks in an impressive 38-minute effort. It was his fifth career double-double and his third career 20-point game.

Eubanks has scored in double figures in 10 of his last 12 games and is averaging 15.8 points over that stretch. His 15-game blocked-shot streak is the second longest in program history; Nick DeWitz set the school record of 20 games in a row in over the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

Stephen Thompson Jr. added 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. He has hit double figures in all 13 games since returning on Dec. 1 from a foot injury that sidelined him for six games. He was 3 of 6 from beyond the arc and is shooting .536 (15-28) from deep in his last six games.

The Beavers (4-16, 0-7 Pac-12) battled the Bears (14-6, 5-3) on even terms for much of the night. Cal twice led by eight points in the first half but OSU scored the final four points of the first half to trail just 34-29 at intermission.

OSU was within 40-36 with 15:42 remaining but the Bears used a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to break away. They led by double-digits for the final 12:50  but the Beavers scrapped to stay with possible striking distance as Thompson Jr. had seven points in the final 1:58.

Freshman guard JaQuori McLaughlin had four assists as the Beavers had 16 on 21 baskets. Junior forward Matt Dahlen matched his lifetime best with three assists.

The Beavers resume Pac-12 action at 5:30 p.m. PT (6:30 p.m. MT) on Thursday when they face the Colorado Buffaloes at the Coors Events Center in Boulder. The game will be televised nationally on FS1.
