Five Pac-12 Players Named Baseball America Preseason All-Americans
SAN FRANCISCO - Five Pac-12 baseball players have been named to the Baseball America 2017 Preseason All-America Teams, the publication announced today. Two student-athletes were named to the first team, one to the second team and two landed on the third team.
OREGON STATE sophomore second baseman Nick Madrigal and STANFORD junior Colton Hock were the Conference's two representatives on the first team. Madrigal was named the 2016 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and was named a Baseball America Freshman All-American. Hock, a right-handed pitcher, was a 2016 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honoree, and was second in the Conference standings for hits allowed with 37 last season.
The lone second-team honoree was Stanford sophomore pitcher Tristan Beck, a 2016 first-team All-Pac-12 honoree and a 2017 preseason All-American by multiple publications.
STANFORD junior outfielder Quinn Brodey was a third team honoree along with UCLA junior pitcher Griffin Canning. Brodey, a 2016 Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honoree, was named to Perfect Game’s, D1Baseball.com’s, and Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects for the 2017 season. Canning was named to NCBWA’s 2016 Preseason All-America third team and was second in the Conference standing for batters struck out with 61 last season.
With 28 College World Series National Titles including four of the last eleven, the Pac-12 looks to continue its dominance in the ranks of collegiate baseball in 2017. Pac-12 baseball has enjoyed unprecedented exposure thanks to the Pac-12 Network which will air 103 games in 2017.
