UCLA voted first in preseason softball coaches poll

SAN FRANCISCO - UCLA was voted first in the Pac-12 softball preseason coaches poll as announced by the Conference today. The Bruins garnered 59 points and three first place votes to top the polling for the first time since 2011. ARIZONA was tabbed second with 57 points and five first place votes, while defending Pac-12 champion OREGON received one first place vote and tied WASHINGTON for third with 47 points.

UTAH placed fifth in the polling with 40 points, followed by CALIFORNIA at sixth with 26 points, and OREGON STATE collected 21 points for seventh. ARIZONA STATE tabbed 19 points for eighth place and STANFORD rounded out the poll at ninth with eight points.

The Bruins are ranked No. 8 in the USA Today/NFCA preseason poll, joining 4 other Pac-12 teams in that polling.

The reigning Pac-12 champion Ducks are ranked No. 9/9 in the NFCA and the ESPN.com/USA Softball preseason polls, joining five other Pac-12 teams in the polling: No. 8/8 UCLA, No. 10/12 Arizona, No. 13/13 Washington, No. 18/17 Utah, No. RV/t24 California. 

The Pac-12 has dominated collegiate softball as 23 of a possible 34 national titles have been claimed by Pac-12 teams. The 2017 Pac-12 softball season begins Thursday, Feb. 9. For more information, including a full TV schedule, visit www.pac-12.com
