SAN FRANCISCO -- The first weekend of conference dual meets saw victory for UTAH, UCLA, CALIFORNIA, and STANFORD. The high level of competition was demonstrated in the fact that two schools who didn't win their meets still scored over a 196: WASHINGTON with a score of 196.300 and OREGON STATE with a score of 196.700.
Pac-12 in the national rankings this week: No. 4 UTAH, No. 5 UCLA, No.14 OREGON STATE, No. 15 CALIFORNIA, and No. 18 WASHINGTON.
The weekend was undoubtedly highlighted by UCLA freshman and 2012 Olympian Kyla Ross's 10.0 on uneven bars. This marks the first perfect 10 of the season in the Pac-12 and the first in the nation this season on bars. Kyla also performed incredibly on vault and beam scoring a 9.925 and a 9.85 respectively. All three scores were career-highs for the Pac-12 Freshman and Specialist of the Week.
Once again this coming weekend, all 8 teams are in action on Pac-12 Networks (see schedule below for specific network). The weekend of action is highlighted by a clash of the only remaining undefeated teams in the Pac-12: No. 4 UTAH and No. 15 CALIFORNIA. The two will go head to head in Salt Lake City at 12:30pm PT this Saturday. The meet will air live on Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Mountain, and Pac-12 Bay Area.
UTAH freshman MyKayla Skinner continues to preform at a very high level, winning Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honors for the fourth week in a row. Skinner remains tied for second in the nation in the all-around. Teammate Baely Rowe is ranked right behind her nationally, giving UTAH claim to two of the top four all-arounders in the nation.
After losing sophomore All-American Sabrina Schwab last week, UTAH suffered another season-ending injury while warming up at Washington on Saturday. The Utes lost freshman two-event starter Kim Tessen to a torn Achilles on her third warm-up rotation on floor.
