Utes Head Back East For Three Matches This Weekend

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis team will be making a road trip this weekend to Iowa and Wisconsin, as the Utes will be matched up against the University of Iowa (6-3) Hawkeyes on Friday in Iowa City, Iowa. Followed by two matches on Sunday against the Marquette Golden Eagles (5-3), capping the day off with a match against the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames (3-5), in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
 
The matchup against Iowa will be held inside the Hawkeye Tennis Recreation Complex with play beginning at 12 p.m. MST. On Sunday, the match against Marquette is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. MST, with the match against Illinois-Chicago set to start right after at 12 p.m. MST. Both matches against the Golden Eagles and Flames will be held at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
 
Utah Notes
The Utes most recent matches were split after going 1-1 with their third weekend of home play. The men's tennis team rolled through the University of Montana 7-0, but then fell to New Mexico after a tough 4-3 loss. Woolley and Little were the only doubles team to card a victory against New Mexico, taking the victory at the No. 1 position 6-3. Slava Shainyan, Dan Little, and Joe Woolley were all victorious in singles action, then with the score tied 3-3, Dominic West of New Mexico defeated Sierra in a nail-biting match by a final score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, giving the Lobos the victory.
 
Opponent Notes
The University of Iowa's men's tennis team is coming off a victorious weekend, picking up a win against the University of Denver, defeating the Pioneers 5-2. In doubles, Josh Silverstein and Lefteris Theodorou improved to 6-2 on the season, defeating Yannik James and Alex Gasson with a final score of 7-5. In singles play, the match was clinched by Kareem Allaf, improving to 6-3 this season.
 
The Marquette University men's tennis team is coming off a 6-1 victory over Green Bay. The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the doubles points, earning wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Marquette would post straight-set wins in five of the six singles matchups, but were pushed a tiebreaker in the first set in several of the matchups.
 
The University of Illinois-Chicago is coming off a loss against Northwestern, the 13th ranked team in the nation. The Flames were swept by Northwestern with a final score of 4-0, falling to 3-5 overall this season.
