Ewen Captures Second-Straight Pac-12 Weekly Honor

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second-straight week, Arizona State thrower Maggie Ewen has been named the Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

It becomes the first time in her three-year Sun Devil career that the redshirt junior has earned multiple athlete of the week honors.

At the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Invitational this past weekend, Ewen opened up with what was then the top discus throw in the country at 59.83m (196-03) on her sixth throw of her first discus event of the outdoor season. Her mark now currently sits as the second-best – three feet behind Kellion Knibb of Florida State -- in the country and the best in the Pac-12 conference by nearly 30 feet.

Ewen competed in just the hammer throw a week ago at the first outdoor meet of the season, where she hit a new American collegiate record at 72.71m (238-6). That earned her last week's Pac-12 honor as well as the USTFCCCA Division I Women's Athlete of the Week.

The St. Francis, Minnesota-native has now thrown for two of the top marks in the country in the first competition in each respective event in 2017. Ewen plans to open up in the shot put – one in which she now has back-to-back First-Team All-American honors in the outdoor and indoor seasons – at the Sun Angel Classic in two weeks.
