NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Junior Selina Ta'amilo had a season-best eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 shutout innings, while redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia struck out two in 1 1/3 frames of relief and also added three hits, as the 12th-ranked Bruins completed non-conference play with a 5-0 victory at CSUN on Wednesday.

Ta'amilo improved to 10-0, allowing just three hits and one walk. She had a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth and struck out a pair in the third, fourth and fifth frames. Garcia pitched the sixth and part of the seventh, fanning one in each inning, allowing a hit and a walk.

At the plate, the Bruins (34-12) had 10 hits from seven different players, as junior Kylee Perez added a pair of singles.

UCLA drew first blood in the second, as Garcia doubled to left-center with one out and scored on a single up the middle by senior Gabrielle Maurice to make it 1-0.

CSUN (27-17) had its chances, but left seven on base, including one in each of the first three innings and two in both the fifth and sixth.

The Bruins padded their lead with four runs in the seventh. Sophomore Zoe Shaw led off with a bunt single, and one out later, moved to third on a single to right by Perez. After Perez stole second, sophomore Brianna Tautalafua singled to left to score Shaw to make it 2-0. Sophomore Stevie Wisz came in to run for Tautalafua and immediately stole second and scored, along with Perez, on a ground-rule double to left by junior Madeline Jelenicki to bring the lead to 4-0. Garcia sailed the next pitch up the middle for a base hit to bring in Jelenicki to make it 5-0.

The Bruins resume Pac-12 play this weekend, traveling to Stanford for a three-game series that starts on Friday at 6 p.m. Live video will be available at UCLABruins.com.
