BOULDER, Colo. – Sophomore Carl Yuan is tied for first while senior Corey Pereira joined him in the top five to lead the University of Washington men's golf team to second place after a snowy and gusty 36-hole first day of the 2017 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships at the par- 70 Boulder Country Club on Friday (April 28).

The Huskies, looking for its first conference team title since 2010 and individual crown since 2009, played almost 36 holes with precipitation falling heavily in the morning hours, though conditions became relatively steady later in the day.

Play was suspended due to darkness as Washington was one of four teams short of completing the second round. The Huskies, in search of its seventh conference title, shot 5-over 355 in the opening round and trail Oregon by three strokes for the tournament lead. Washington is at 355-337—692 with three players needing to finish a total of seven holes in the second round.

Defending national champion No. 10 Oregon leads the 12-team field at 16-over, while No. 8 Stanford (+26) is in third.

Highlighted by four birdies in the first round, Yuan along with Oregon's Wyndham Clark are pacing the medalist race at 2-under. Following an eagle on the par-4 seventh hole, Yuan was two holes shy of finishing the second round before play was suspended.

Pereira carded 1-under 69 in the first round, highlighted by back-to-back birdies in the back nine, to finish the first day tied for fourth. The senior has four holes remaining in the second round.

In his first Pac-12 Championship appearance, freshman Henry Lee is also in the top-10. After shooting a first-round 74, Lee is tied for eighth through almost two rounds. The Coquitlam, B.C. native has one hole left to play in the second round.

After carding 2-over 72 in the first round, junior Frank Garber sits in a tie for 16th place. The Kirkland, Wash. native completed the second round and shot 4-over to end the day with a score of 146.

Freshman Daniel List (+13, 153) is tied 58th while senior Kevin Kwon (+17, 157) is tied for 70th.
