PHILADELPHIA – Former Cal football players quarterback Davis Webb, wide receiver Chad Hansen and running back/returner Khalfani Muhammad were selected in the 2017 NFL Draft that concluded Saturday along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Webb was chosen Friday in the third round by the New York Giants with the 87th pick overall while Hansen and Muhammad were taken in the fourth and seventh round Saturday by the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans with the 141st and 241st selections overall.

Cal has now had 235 players selected in the history of the NFL Draft.

Webb and Hansen became only the second Cal quarterback/wide receiver combination to be chosen together in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft in school history following the 2005 selections of quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers – first round, No. 24 overall) and wide receiver Chase Lyman (New Orleans Saints, fourth round, No. 118 overall).

Webb, who played one season at Cal in 2016 as a graduate transfer from Texas Tech, was honored as a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award while being named Athlon Sports' Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year and picking up an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection. He also made the cut to the final 15 for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award® and was on watch lists for the Maxwell Award and Manning Award. Webb started all 12 games in his lone season at Cal and completed 382-of-620 passes (61.6%) for 4,295 yards with 37 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions for a 135.63 passing efficiency rating. He ranked among the nation's leaders in nearly every passing category including passing yards per game (2nd, 357.9 ypg), passing attempts (2nd), completions per game (3rd, 31.83 cpg), points responsible for per game (3rd, 21.7 ppg), completions (4th), total offense (4th, 348.8 ypg), passing yards (6th), total plays (6th, 653), passing touchdowns (T8th) and points responsible for (260, 8th). He was also the Pac-12's leader in passing yards per game and total offense, while he set Cal single-season records for passing attempts, completions and total plays. He also equaled single-season Cal marks for most 300-yard passing games (10) and touchdowns responsible for (43) with his 37 in the air plus another six on the ground that also tied for the most ever by a Cal quarterback. Webb combined to complete 841-of-1367 (61.5%) passes for 9,852 yards with 83 touchdown passes and 34 interceptions over 35 games and 26 starts in his college career including his three seasons at Texas Tech (2013-15).

"It's a huge credit to Coach Dykes, Coach Spavital, some of the great teammates of mine at Cal and the great University itself," Webb added. "They gave me an opportunity, and I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Cal. I'm very thankful, and that's why it's a place I'm going to call my home."

Hansen racked up some of the top receiving numbers in the nation during a breakout 2016 junior season at Cal and was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection of the Associated Press, Athlon Sports, ESPN.com and Phil Steele, as well as a second-team All-Pac-12 pick of the league's coaches. Hansen ranked third in the country as a junior in per-game receptions (9.2) and fourth in receiving yards (124.9), while he was also 12th nationally in total receptions (92), 17th in receiving yards (1,249) and tied for 22nd in touchdown receptions (11) despite missing two contests due to injury and finishing with 10 games played overall and nine starts. In addition, Hansen led the Pac-12 in both per-game and total receptions as well as receiving yards while he was fourth in the conference in touchdown catches. His total receptions and receiving yards both also rank third on Cal's all-time single-season list. Hansen exploded onto the national scene early in the 2016 campaign and earned midseason All-American honors from ESPN and Sports Illustrated as well as ESPN midseason All-Pac-12 recognition. He was also added to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award during the season and captured the Berkeley Breakfast Club Award as Cal's most outstanding player in the Big Game against Stanford. Hansen began his Cal career as a walk-on and played two seasons for the Golden Bears as a sophomore and junior in 2015 and 2016 after transferring from Idaho State. Hansen combined for 111 receptions and 1,498 receiving yards with 12 touchdown catches over 20 games and nine starts at Cal after redshirting the 2014 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Hansen finished his collegiate career that also included his 2013 true freshman season at Idaho State with 156 receptions for 1,999 receiving yards with 15 touchdown receptions over 31 games and 20 starts.

"I'd say it was just a huge relief and just overall excitement with my family and everything," Hansen told Jets reporters about finally hearing he had been selected by the Jets. "Just having all your hard work become a reality, it's just an amazing feeling. You really can't put it into words."

Muhammad played in 45 games with 13 starts during his four seasons at Cal from 2013-16 and ranks second on the school's all-time list in kick returns (87) and kick return yards (1931) while his 4,575 career all-purpose yards are third. Muhammad also rushed for 2,073 career yards on 359 carries while racking up 14 total touchdowns and 84 points. He posted the top rushing season of his career as a 2016 senior with 827 yards rushing on 152 carries, both career highs. He also set single-season school records of 46 kick returns and 1,006 kick return yards as a 2013 freshman.

"I am excited about this new chapter in my life and looking forward to being a productive player in the NFL," Muhammad said. "I appreciate the opportunity Tennessee is giving me and will make the most out of it."

Webb, Hansen and Muhammad all attended Cal's Pro Day last month along with other draft-eligible former players who completed their collegiate eligibility at Cal in 2016 including safety Damariay Drew, offensive lineman Steven Moore, long snapper Bradley Northnagel, safety Khari Vanderbilt, defensive end DeVante Wilson and wide receiver Patrick Worstell. Webb, Hansen and Northnagel were also among the nation's top draft prospects to attend the 2017 NFL Combine in late February and early March.

In addition to NFL Draft selections, many players who are not drafted typically sign undrafted free agent contracts to join NFL rosters shortly after the draft.

Maryland was the only other school to previously accomplish the feat with the 1990 selection of Neil O'Donnell (Pittsburgh Steelers, third round, No. 70 overall) followed by the 1991 pick of Scott Zolak (New England Patriots, fourth round, No. 84 overall).
  • Webb and Hansen become only the second Cal quarterback/wide receiver combination to be chosen together in the first four rounds of an NFL Draft in school history following the 2005 selections of quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers – first round, No. 24 overall) and wide receiver Chase Lyman (New Orleans Saints, fourth round, No. 118 overall).
  • Cal has had at least one player selected in the NFL Draft for 30 of the last 31 years with at least one in the top three rounds for 10 of the last 11. Cal had strings of at least one player selected in the NFL Draft for 28 consecutive years (1987-2014), one in the top three rounds for eight (2007-14) and two in the first four rounds for five (2010-14) before those streaks were all snapped when no Cal player was chosen in 2015.
  • The most Cal players selected in a single NFL Draft were the 10 chosen in 1952, while Cal's six players picked in the 1977, 2008 and 2012 drafts tie for the second-most in school history.
