GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The No. 1 Stanford women's lightweight rowing program won the openweight eight grand final at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships Sunday.

The Cardinal lightweight varsity eight raced in the openweight competition, winning Sunday's Grand Final by open water with a time of 6:18.404. San Diego State (6:29.322) finished more than 10 seconds back in second place, with Loyola Marymount (6:31.132) rounding out the top three finishers in the seven-team race.

Stanford's lightweight double was also victorious on Sunday, winning the Grand Final by open water with a time of 7:28.324. Cal's lightweight double was second with a time of 8:09.208. Â

The lightweight novice four won Saturday's heat with a time of 7:52.425 to advance to Sunday's Grand Final. The Cardinal placed fifth in Sunday's openweight novice four Grand Final with a time of 7:56.630. Western Washington's novice four captured the gold medal with a time of 7:30.994. Seattle Pacific (7:32.016), Loyola Marymount (7:42.080) and Oregon (7:52.617) rounded out the top four.

Stanford's second lightweight varsity eight placed second in Saturday's heat with a time of 6:47.700, with San Diego State (6:45.228) taking the heat. The Cardinal did not race in Sunday's Second Varsity Eight Grand Final.

Stanford will be back in action at Lake Natoma, Friday-Sunday, June 2-4 in the IRA Championships. The Cardinal is the two-time defending IRA Champion.
