Deajah Stevens and Ariana Washington each earns spots on Team USA for the IAAF World Championships on Friday at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Oregon track and field's Deajah Stevens and Ariana Washington each earned spots on Team USA in the 100 meters for the IAAF World Championships in London on Friday, highlighting the first two days of action for the Ducks at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in Sacramento.

Former Duck star Eric Jenkins also punched his ticket to London and earned a place on Team USA on Friday with a second-place finish in the 5,000 meter finals (13:15.74).

How it Happened: Stevens (11.08) and Washington (11.10), who posted the second and fourth fastest times, respectively, in the 100 semifinals earlier in the day, finished 2-3 in the finals to earn spots in London. Washington recovered from a slow start to surge over the final 20 meters and grab the third qualifying spot behind Stevens and U.S. champion Tori Bowie. Both Stevens and Washington will don the red, white and blue once again after representing Oregon in the Olympics last summer in Rio. Both Ducks will return on Saturday for the first round of the 200 meters.

"It's exciting." Stevens said in a post-race interview. "It's so fun. This is our second team together. We just believe in each other so much. It makes us so happy when we can come out here and execute."

In the 800 meter semifinals, six-time NCAA Champion and Bowerman finalist Raevyn Rogers advanced to Sunday's finals after placing second in her heat in 2:00.93. Samantha Nadel ran better than an 11-second PR in the 5,000 meter finals at 15:37.69, sixth-best in school history, to place 14th.

Junior Hannah Cunliffe, racing for the first time since late May, reached the semifinals of the 100 with an 11.12 showing on Thursday before missing the finals with a seventh-place finish.

Senior Kyree King was fifth in the men's 100 meter semifinal to miss the finals, but the school record-holder will return in the first round of the 200 meters on Saturday.

Pac-12 champion Alaysha Johnson continued her terrific 2017 season with a good start in Sacramento, taking second (12.71) in her preliminary 100 hurdles heat to reach tomorrow's semifinals. Senior Sasha Wallace also qualified in 13.16, and both she and Johnson were running into significant headwinds.

Elexis Guster and Makenzie Dunmore each advanced out of the first round in the 400 meters, but both took fifth in their respective semifinal heats to miss the finals.

On Thursday, Sam Prakel won his 1,500 heat in 3:40.76 to advance to Saturday's final, and freshman Katie Rainsberger did the same in the women's race with a third-place finish in her heat in 4:13.48.

In the U.S. Junior Championships, freshman Rhesa Foster took second overall in the long jump with a top leap of 20'5.5" (6.23m) to qualify for the Pan American Championships in Trujillo, Peru, in July.

Freshman Braxton Canady took second in his 110 hurdles semifinal heat, but was fifth in the final to just miss qualifying. Future Duck Joseph Anderson booked his spot in Peru after finishing second in the final in 13.45.

Freshman Hannah Waller qualified for tomorrow's Junior final in the 400 meters, finishing third in her heat in 52.95. Maddie Rabing took seventh in the hammer (168') and eighth in the shot put (48'6").

Pro Ducks: Six of the 21 professional Ducks in Sacramento were in action on Friday, with Jenkins highlighting the group with his qualification in the 5,000.. Phyllis Francis reached Saturday's final of the 400 meters, and English Gardner was sixth in the 100 meter finals. Laura Roesler will join Rogers in the 800 meter finals after running 2:02.19 to qualify. Jenna Prandini did not advance out of the 100 semifinals, and Trevor Dunbar was seventh in the 5,000 meter finals.

On Thursday, Galen Rupp failed to win the U.S. title and make Team USA in the 10,000 meters for the first time in his last nine tries, finishing fifth.

Up Next: The U.S. Outdoor Championships continue on Saturday at Hornet Stadium, and will be broadcast live from 1 pm to 3 pm on NBC.
