Beavers Knock Off Michigan In Match Play

September 18, 2017 | Women's Golf

MADISON, Wis. – The Oregon State women's golf team knocked off Michigan, 3-2, at the East West Match Play Challenge on Monday.

Olivia Benzin cruised past Alisa Snyder 6 and 4, Haley Nist defeated Emily White 2 and 1, and Susie Cavanagh secured the win for the Beavers with a birdie on the 21st hole against Megan Kim.

Sophomore Mari Nishiura, who is competing as an individual, won her match 1 up over Tzu Yu Chou of Iowa State.

"Overall, it was a solid day of golf," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "The team was a little disappointed last night with how they played yesterday and showed their fight today by beating a very good Michigan team that went to the NCAA Championship last year.

"Olivia, Haley, Susie and Mari played well today in their victories. Susie stayed calm and collected thru 21 holes to secure the winning point with a birdie from five feet on the par 3 12th hole."

The Beavers will face UC Davis starting at 9:33 a.m. CT (7:33 a.m. PT) on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.

The match play format is five golfers competing head-to-head in individual play with one point given to the winning player. The first team to three points wins the match. Extra holes will be played as necessary at the par-72, 6,219-yard University Ridge Golf Course
