A Dozen Cougars Named to Pac-12 All-Academic Cross Country Teams

SAN FRANCISCO -- Seven men and five women from the Washington State University cross country teams were named to the 2017 Pac-12 Conference Cross Country All-Academic teams, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Mon., Nov. 20.
 
Jake Finney, Kyler Little and Chandler Teigen were named to the men's 10-member first team. This is the second consecutive year Finney and Teigen have been accorded first team honors. Finney is a junior from Post Falls, Idaho, with a 3.96 grade point average majoring in mathematics. Teigen is a junior from Anatone, Wash., with a 3.99 GPA majoring in biological engineering. Little is a junior from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with a 4.00 GPA majoring in computer science and mathematics.
 
Paul Ryan, a junior from Moscow, Idaho, with a 3.48 GPA in accounting received honorable mention honors for the second time. Other honorable mention honorees from the men's team were Cameron Dean (sophomore, Spokane, Wash., 3.61 GPA, undeclared major), Nathan Wadhwani (junior, Maple Ridge, B.C., Canada, 3.42 GPA in finance), and Michael Williams (senior, Richland Wash., 3.01 GPA in music).
 
Katherine Dittmann and Josie Brown were named to the women's first team after both received second team honors last year. Dittmann, a junior from Snohomish, Wash., has a 3.91 GPA and is majoring in psychology. Brown is a junior from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with a 3.90 GPA in humanities.
 
This is the third year Devon Bortfeld has been on a conference all-academic team. The senior team captain from Sammamish, Wash., was tabbed to the 2016 honorable mention and the 2015 second team. Bortfeld has a 3.79 GPA in psychology.
 
Cougars women named to the honorable mention team were Melissa Hruska (sophomore, Snoqualmie, Wash., 3.26 GPA, undeclared major), and Desi Stinger (sophomore, Temecula, Calif., 3.64 GPA, undeclared major).
 
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. A total of 74 women and 62 men were selected for the 2017 Pac-12 Cross Country All-Academic teams.
