Lambermont, Belgium – The future looks bright for Oregon men's tennis senior Simon Stevens as the Belgium native advanced all the way to the doubles finals at the Belgium F10 Futures tournament Friday.
Stevens, along with partner Germain Gigounon, recorded duplicate 6-2, 6-2 victories along with a forfeit decision in the quarterfinals to secure a berth in the championship match against the duo of Tom Schonenberg and Jeroen Vanneste.
Stevens and Gigounon fought hard to push their opponents to a third set after dropping the opening set 6-2, but could not complete the comeback eventually falling 6-2, 6-7 (4-6), 10-6.
The runner-up finish marks the best result for Stevens in Futures play since making it to the semi-finals in the Belgium F3 Futures tournament in 2015.
As the summer comes to a close, Stevens will head back to Eugene as one of three seniors on the 2017-18 men's tennis team looking to lead the Ducks back to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.
