BERKELEY – After scoring a pair of hat tricks in wins at No. 2 UCLA and No. 8 Long Beach State, Cal men's water polo junior Odysseas Masmanidis added his name to the Bears' growing list of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation award winners as he was named the conference's player of the week.

The native of Athens, Greece is the fourth Golden Bear to earn the MPSF's weekly award in 2017 and second-consecutive honoree after Luca Cupido received the honor last week. With goalkeeper Kevin Le Vine and center Pedro Stellet also winning the award earlier in the year, Cal players have now taken the award four out of a possible eight times.

Masmanidis played a key role in Cal's two-win weekend in Southern California, beginning with a team-high scoring effort in the Bears' win over the Bruins. With three goals, one field block and one ejection earned, he helped Cal avenge its lone loss of the season.

The next day, Masmanidis helped the Bears improve to 17-1 as he scored three more goals and added three ejections earned, two field blocks and an assist in a 14-8 victory over the 49ers. Through 18 games, he ranks second on the team with 36 goals and leads the squad in ejections earned with 37.

Masmanidis and the Bears return to action on Nov. 4 when they host USC at 11 a.m. in the final home match of the 2017 season. The game will double as Senior Day and will be broadcast live by Pac-12 Networks.
