TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sun Devils football coach Todd Graham didn't gain a real sense of the Territorial Cup rivalry with Arizona until his third season at the helm. Sun Devil legends such as Whizzer White and Frank Kush had stressed the importance of the game, but Graham needed another key piece of information before he fully grasped its significance.

"We won it the first two years," Graham said Tuesday. "Until you come up short in this game, you don't really realize just how much it means, and you find out in a hurry. There's only side you want to be on in this deal."

Arizona State will host Arizona at Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday in the 91st Duel in the Desert. Both teams have already secured bowl eligibility, but the winner will take second place in the Pac-12 South Division with a 6-3 conference record.

There's no telling where this game will stack up against the greatest matchups of the past, but here's a quick look back at 10 memorable games for Sun Devil fans in the 118-year-old rivalry.

1968: ASU 30, Arizona 7 -- In a battle for the Western Athletic Conference title, second-year Wildcats coach Darrell Mudra demanded that the Sun Bowl commit to the Wildcats before the game. Bowl officials caved and awarded the Wildcats the bid, which gave birth to the nickname for this game in Tucson: Ultimatum Bowl. ASU routed the Wildcats, but neither team won the WAC due to tiebreakers. The game led to the creation of the Fiesta Bowl. Phoenix officials wanted their own bowl game to avoid a repeat of this instance. Incidentally, Arizona lost the Sun Bowl to Auburn, 34-10.

1975: ASU 24, Arizona 21 -- With a Fiesta Bowl berth on the line, wide receiver John Jefferson made what is likely the most iconic play in Sun Devil football history. No. 12 Arizona had taken an early 14-3 lead at No. 8 ASU when Sun Devils QB Dennis Sproul appeared to overthrow Jefferson in the end zone late in the first half. Instead, Jefferson laid out with full body extension for a TD reception that became known as "The Catch" to cut the Wildcats' lead to 14-10 at halftime and shift momentum for good. Kush's team won that game and completed a perfect 12-0 season with a 17-14 win over Nebraska in the Fiesta Bowl.

1978: ASU 18, Arizona 17 -- In Kush's final game as ASU's coach, Sun Devil quarterback Mark Malone threw a pair of touchdown passes and Arizona kicker Bill Zivic's 45-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds sailed wide left as the Devils survived in Tucson. The loss left Arizona with a 5-6 record under second-year coach Tony Mason. ASU finished the season 9-3, and Kush concluded his ASU career with a 16-5 record against the Wildcats, including a nine-game winning streak from 1965-73.

1991: ASU 37, Arizona 14 -- Larry Marmie's final game as Sun Devils coach was a memorable one. ASU built a 17-0 lead in the first quarter on Eric Guliford's 24-yard touchdown catch and 68-yard punt return. It was 37-0 in the fourth quarter before UA even woke up. The win ended what was known as "The Streak," ASU's nine-year winless streak in the rivalry.

1992: ASU 7, Arizona 6 -- Arizona's "Desert Swarm" defense suffocated ASU for three quarters, holding the Devils under 100 yards of total offense and preventing them from crossing midfield until fourth-string tailback Kevin Galbreath broke free for a 51-yard touchdown run — the only TD of the game — to erase a 6-0 Arizona lead. Arizona placekicker Steve McLaughlin had a chance to give Arizona a win, but his 57-yard field goal attempt fell just short in the final moments to give the Devils their first win in Tucson since 1980.

1996: ASU 56, Arizona 14: The game particulars were not as important as a couple of other achievements in this game. The Sun Devils ended a three-game losing streak in the rivalry. They also improved to 11-0 on their way to a Rose Bowl meeting with Ohio State.

2005: ASU 23, UA 20 -- Coach Dirk Koetter's Sun Devils rallied from a 20-5 deficit to score the final 18 points of the game, capped by a game-winning field goal by Jesse Ainsworth in the final minute in Tempe. Wide receiver Terry Richardson's punt return for a touchdown and QB Rudy Carpenter's subsequent two-point conversion pass to tight end Zach Miller tied the game after Cats QB Willie Tuitama exited the game with a shoulder injury.

2007: Arizona State 20, Arizona 17 -- The Sun Devils (9-2) were fighting for a BCS bowl berth. The Wildcats (5-6) were just hoping for a bowl berth. QB Rudy Carpenter led the Devils to their first 10-win season since 1996, throwing for 247 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. ASU didn't get a BCS bowl, but it earned a Holiday Bowl bid, while Arizona's season ended.

2010: ASU 30, Arizona 29 (2OT) -- ASU had already lost four games by four points or less. Defensive end James Brooks was determined not to let it happen again. Brooks appeared to be launched from a trampoline when he leapt to block Alex Zendejas' extra point try and send the 84th playing of the Territorial Cup into overtime in Tucson. When Arizona scored to pull within one point in the second overtime, Brooks produced an encore on a low kick, giving Arizona State a 30-29 victory that exorcised the earlier-season demons. "The football gods finally got on our side," coach Dennis Erickson said after his first career overtime and OT win pulled the Devils to 6-6. "I guess the extra point god got on our side, too."

2013: ASU 58, Arizona 21 -- The Sun Devils posted their seventh consecutive victory and secured the right to host the Pac-12 title game against Stanford with a lopsided win over the Wildcats at Sun Devil Stadium. ASU played without star running back Marion Grice, but quarterback Taylor Kelly completed passes to eight receivers to throw for 274 yards and two touchdowns, and DJ Foster rushed for a career-high 124 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Damarious Randall sealed the game in the third-quarter when he intercepted Arizona quarterback B.J. Denker and returned it 64 yards for a touchdown, giving the Sun Devils a 37-14 lead.
