Teams wrap up the first half of Conference play this week and there is a bottleneck at the top of the standings. No. 7/9 OREGON sits in first place in the Pac-12 holding just a two-game lead over the next six teams.
UTAH picked up a road upset last week, also a second road sweep of the season in league play. The Utes look to build on that momentum hosting the Ducks and No. 17/17 OREGON STATE. Both those matchups will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
No. 25/RV ARIZONA STATE also faces an important road trip, preparing for rematches with STANFORD and #23/RV CALIFORNIA. The Sun Devils and Golden Bears are tied for fourth in the standings, along with the UTES and OSU. The Cardinal are one-game ahead in a tie for second.
Five Pac-12 teams are ranked in the
Associated Press
top 25 this week, the Ducks appearing in the top 10. It is also in the top 10 of the
USA Today
/WBCA Coaches poll. UCLA is in the top 20 with the Ducks and Beavers, earning a No. 13/12 ranking, while Cal and ASU are among the writers top 25.
Oregon and UCLA were among the NCAAs top-16 seeds announced on Jan. 18. If the season had ended on Jan. 16, the Ducks would be the No. 4 overall seed, which would give them one of the top-four seeds in the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins had been tabbed a No. 12 overall seed.
UCLAs Monique Billings is the Pac-12 Player of the Week, becoming the third Bruin and 14th player in Pac-12 history to score over 1,500 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds. Utahs Tori Williams is the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after helping her team to a second Pac-12 road sweep of the season.
Becoming just the third player in Pac-12 history to top 700 assists, UCLAs Jordin Canada looks to become just the fifth player in league history to top 300 steals. She stands at 299 heading into the week. She is threatening the career-assists mark that has stood since 1990-91, needing 49 more to match the record.
