Four perfect scores for Pac-12 gymnasts last weekend

• Four Pac-12 gymnasts recorded perfect 10’s in what highlighted an exciting weekend of marquee matchups last week. No. 2 UTAH’s MaKenna Merrell-Giles, the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week, earned the Utes’ first 10.0 of the season on vault. It was the first perfect score of her career and the first by a Ute on the event since 2015.
• No. 4 UCLA claimed the other perfect 10’s in a back-and-forth meet against #1 ranked Oklahoma. The Bruins and Sooners combined for six perfect 10s, including four in a row between the two teams. UCLA’s Christine Peng-Peng Lee achieved perfection on balance beam, her second-consecutive 10 on beam and the fifth perfect score of her career. Teammates Felicia Hano and Katelyn Ohashi were both perfect in their floor routines, tying for the win in the event. Hano was named this week’s Pac-12 Specialist of the Week after earning the first perfect 10 of her career.
• All eight Conference teams go head-to-head this week with the four meets televised live on Pac-12 Networks. The Utes kick the weekend off against No. 17 ARIZONA STATE on Friday for Utah’s "Throwback" night at the Huntsman Center. On Saturday, UCLA travels to CALIFORNIA in the Networks’ Pac-12 Meet of the Week, followed by No. 11 OREGON STATE at No. 16 WASHINGTON. On Sunday, No. 20 STANFORD will take on No. 25 ARIZONA in Tucson.
• Cal took home its first Conference win in the home opener against Arizona last week, posting a season-high score of 195.950 to the Cats’ 194.425. Bears gymnasts combined 49.400 on floor, tallying the fourth-highest total in the event in school history. Three Bears took home titles with Nina Schank posting a 9.85 to win her second career bars title, Arianna Robinson claiming her first vault title of the season by matching her career-high 9.90, and Toni-Ann Williams earning gold with a 9.95 on floor. Arizona’s Madison Cindric was first in both the all-around (39.225) and the beam competitions (9.875), also recording a career-high 9.875 on vault.
• Utah remains undefeated in the Pac-12 after beating out Washington, 197.700-196.250, in front of a sellout crowd of 15,558 at home last week. The Utes have now set a season-high team score in each of the last three meets.
• Three Pac-12 squads jumped rank this week in the national polls with Utah leading the way at the No. 2 spot (previously #3). Oregon State claimed the win against Arizona State in last week’s annual DAM Cancer meet in Corvallis, bumping the Beavers up two spots to No. 11. Stanford beat out UC Davis, San Jose State, and Seattle Pacific to take home the win in the quad meet, putting them at No. 20 this week, up from No. 23 last week. UCLA, Washington, ASU, and Arizona also made the top-25 this week, ranking No. 4, 16, 17, and 25, respectively.
