EUGENE, ORE. – STANFORD navigated windy conditions to post a final round 4-over at Eugene Country Club to capture its 11th Pac-12 Men’s Golf title, and fourth in the last six years. The Cardinal entered the final round in third place, four strokes behind third round leader CALIFORNIA. The Cardinal finished the Championships at 7-under (1413), followed by UCLA in second place at even par and CALIFORNIA in third at 1-over.

• Stanford was led by Isaiah Salinda, who was just one of four golfers to shoot under par in the final round as tight pin placements and strong winds played havoc on the field. Salinda posted a 1-under in the final round and finished in fifth place at 3-under (281). Teammates Brandon Wu and Daulet Tulebayev finished in a tie for seventh at 1-under (283). Tulebayev’s score being the lowest by a Pac-12 freshman.

• Stanford coach Conrad Ray on his team’s winning performance, “I think the wind surprised everyone today, but we did a good job all week keeping the big numbers off the card for the most part. We had a couple, but dodged the bullet and made the birdie putts when it mattered. The front nine we just played solid and some of the other teams had some trouble. All week we kind of made our birdies on the back nine and did that again today. Everyone, one through six, contributed in a good way and I was happy for the guys to pull it out.” On heading into the NCAA Regionals, “Momentum is a real thing in team golf and I think our guys are feeling that. Our guys are motivated to see where we can ride this thing. We have a great young team and they are hungry to go win.”

• California’s Collin Morikawa began the final round with a one-stroke lead, but opened with three straight bogeys and found himself two strokes back of second round leader UTAH’s Kyler Dunkle. However, Morikawa roared through the back nine with four birdies, including three straight to close out the Championships to earn medalist honors at 12-under (272), four strokes clear of Dunkle (-8). UCLA’s Cole Madey was third (-5), while USC’s Justin Suh finished fourth (-4).  Morikawa becomes the fourth Golden Bear all-time to earn Conference medalist honors, joining Charlie Wi (1995), Eric Mina (2010) and Max Homa (2013).

• Morikawa on becoming Pac-12 medalist, “It is awesome. I’ve always wanted to be in the Pac-12 and go to a school in the Pac-12. I’ve been close, but not close enough the past three years. It’s my final shot and it was all or nothing. So, to finally come out here and make a statement the last three holes was really special.” On the windy conditions in the final round, “It was obviously going to play harder, hitting fairways was going to be a little more important. It was a tough start, but I knew I had a lot of good golf in me if I kept giving myself chances. I just kept grinding, one shot at a time, which was the mentality for the entire week.”
