Top 4 seeds set to compete in Pac-12 Women's Tennis Championship semifinals

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For the second time in the event's four-year team tournament history, the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Championship semifinals will feature the top-4 seeds as No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 STANFORD, No. 3 CALIFORNIA, and No. 4 ARIZONA STATE advanced through the quarterfinals at Barnes Tennis Center on Saturday. 

The Bruins will meet the Sun Devils and the Golden Bears will face the Cardinal in Sunday’s semifinals at 12:00 p.m. PT. 

No. 1 UCLA 4, No. 8 WASHINGTON STATE 0

The top-seeded UCLA Bruins kicked off their Pac-12 Tennis Championship with a dominating 4-0 performance over eighth-seeded WASHINGTON STATE. The Bruins did not drop a set against the Cougars. Elysia Bolton clinched the match for UCLA following singles wins by Sasha Vagramov and Vivian Wolff, securing a spot in Sunday’s semifinal round where it will battle fourth-seeded ARIZONA STATE. The Bruins have won 10 in a row entering the semifinals.

No. 4 ARIZONA STATE 4, No. 5 USC 3 

In a close matchup between fourth-seeded ARIZONA STATE and fifth-seeded USC, the Sun Devils came out victorious with a 4-3 victory over the Trojans. USC won the doubles point to take the early lead. In singles play, wins by Giulia Morlet and Ilze Hattingh set up Marianna Argyrokastrit’s dominating performance against USC’s Summer Dvorak (7-6, 6-4) that gave the Sun Devils the win they needed to clinch the match and advance to the semifinals. ASU will face the No. 1 seeded UCLA Bruins Sunday.

No. 3 CALIFORNIA 4, No. 6 OREGON 1

No. 3 seed CALIFORNIA won a tough encounter with No. 6 seed OREGON, 4-1, with four singles matches going to three sets. The Golden Bears opened the contest by winning the doubles point over an Oregon team that had only dropped four doubles points all season long. The singles matches featured a series of tight contests, with Julia Rosenqvist winning a close contest at the No. 2 spot over Rifanty Kahfiani (7-6, 6-4), and Jada Bui closing out a three-setter at the No. 3 spot over Martinez Moral (6-2, 4-6, 6-2). Combined with Anna Bright’s win over Julia Eshet at the No. 5 spot, Cal has earned a place in Sunday’s semifinals against No. 2 seed Stanford.

No. 2 STANFORD 4, No. 7 WASHINGTON 2 

No. 2 seed STANFORD defeated No. 7 seed WASHINGTON 4-2 in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday afternoon. Stanford is seeking its fifth consecutive Pac-12 title. India Houghton's 6-3, 7-6 victory on court six represented the clincher for the Cardinal, which has won four in a row. Stanford won the doubles point for a 1-0 lead thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Straight-set victories from Sara Choy and Emma Higuchi gave Stanford a 3-1 lead. Washington continued to fight back and gained another point before Houghton clinched the win. Stanford next faces California in Sunday's semifinals at 12 p.m. PT.
