Pac-12 announces 2022 men's golf postseason awards

May 4, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO — RJ Manke of WASHINGTON was named the Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Year, Preston Summerhays of ARIZONA STATE was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, and Huskies' coach Alan Murray was tabbed Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season in a voting by the Pac-12 coaches. In addition, the 2022 Pac-12 Men’s Golf All-Conference Teams as selected by the coaches were announced.

Pac-12 Men's Golfer of the Year: RJ Manke, Sr., WASHINGTON (Lakewood, Wash.)

A semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award and candidate for the Fred Haskins Award, Manke joins two-time recipient Nick Taylor (Co-Player 2009 & 2010) as the only Washington recipients of the Pac-12 Player of the Year honor. In his lone season on Montlake, the senior has led UW to one of its best in program history with six tournament team titles including the Pac-12 Championship. He is currently on pace (69.08) to shatter Washington's single-season scoring record and is tied for third in program history with nine top-10 finishes so far this season. Eight of his top 10s have been third-place or better, including consecutive victories at the Fighting Irish Classic and Oregon State Invitational in October, and he began his UW career by matching the program's 54-hole scoring record of 195 (70-62-63) at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in September.

Pac-12 Men's Golf Freshman of the Year: Preston Summerhays, ARIZONA STATE (Scottsdale, Ariz.)

Summerhays has consistently delivered for the Sun Devils' lineup throughout his rookie season, owning a 71.4 scoring average across 32 rounds. He has played in every ASU competition so far in 2021-22, posting five top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments including a share of medalist honors (4-under 68) at the East Lake Cup in October and a ninth-place showing (1-over 285) at the Pac-12 Championships. Summerhays joins Alejandro Canizares (2003), Jon Rahm (2013) and teammates Cameron Sisk (2019) and David Puig (2021) to earn the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year honor.

Pac-12 Men's Golf Coach of the Year: Alan Murray, WASHINGTON

Murray, in his sixth season at Washington, earns his first Pac-12 Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Huskies to their first league title since 2010. He has led UW to six tournament titles, equaling the program record established in 1972, and top-3 finishes in 10-of-12 events so far in 2021-22. The Huskies have been ranked in the top 25 all season, including inside the top 10 for much of the spring season. It is the fifth-ever recognition for the Washington program and first since 2009. It is Murray's second career honor after being named 2016 Conference USA Coach of the Year in his final season at UAB.

The Pac-12 golf awards and the All-Pac-12 Team are voted on by the Conference head golf coaches.
