Stanford's Leon MacAlister named Pac-12 Men's Swimming/Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Stanford senior Leon MacAlister was named the 2022-23 Men’s Swimming/Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year, the Pac-12 Conference announced on Friday.

The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes who are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline. 

The fourth year Cardinal from Sydney, Australia is currently studying Economics with a cumulative GPA of 3.848. In his academic endeavors, MacAlister is a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll recipient, 2022 CSC Academic All-District and All American Third Team selection as well as being a 2022 CSCAA Scholar All-American and a four-time CSCAA Scholar All-American Team Member.

In his time as a Cardinal, MacAlister has set five Stanford program records in the 100 back (44.75), 200 back (1:38.95), 400 free relay (2:47.17), 200 medley relay (1:22.41) and the 400 medley relay (3:01.45). Alongside program records, the senior became a five-time All-American in the 100 back, 200 back, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and 400 free relay.

In 2022, MacAlister captured two Pac-12 Championship titles ,sweeping the 200 and 400 medley relay events, setting a new Pac-12 Championship record in the 400 (3:01.45).
