No. 17 USC women’s lacrosse set to face No. 5 Denver in NCAA Tournament opener

SAN FRANCISCO -  Regular season and Pac-12 Tournament champion USC was among the 29 teams selected to the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship, announced on Sunday evening.
 
The Trojans (16-3), who are making their second consecutive and sixth overall NCAA appearance, will face fifth-ranked Denver at Peter Barton Stadium in Denver on Friday, May 12 at 2 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. MT on ESPN+. The Trojans are 4-4 all-time against the Pioneers, including victories in four of the last five matchups, and most recently squared off in the 2019 NCAA Tournament opener.
 
 
USC boasts one of the best defenses in the country, allowing just eight goals per game which is the fifth-lowest in Division I and causing the eighth-most turnovers at 10.89 per game. The Trojans went 6-3 on the road this year and are 5-1 in their last six contests.
 
The first three rounds of the five-round tournament will be played on campuses of competing schools and shown live on ESPN+. The semifinals and championship game will be played in Cary, North Carolina at WakeMed Soccer Park on Friday, May 26 and Sunday, May 28.
