PHOENIX, Ariz. – Chayse Gomez fired a 2-under 70 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the first round of the PING/ASU Invitational on Thursday.

The Beavers opened the three-day, 54-hole tournament with an even-par 288 at the par-72, 6,570-yard Papago Golf Club and are tied for eighth place in a 17-team field that includes 14 programs ranked in the Top 50 nationally.

The second round begins at 8:00 on Friday and live scoring is available golfstat.com.

Gomez, a fifth year senior from Yorba Linda, Calif., dropped in four birdies and had two bogeys to finish with a 2-under 70 that has her in a tie for 14th place. She has been in red figures in nine of her 21 rounds this season and has 29 career sub-par scores.

She has five career Top 10 finishes, including four last season, with the best being a tie for sixth place at the Silverado Showdown in the spring of 2022.

Kyra Ly continued a strong sophomore campaign with an even-par 72 that included three birdies and three bogeys. She had a team-best 72.50 scoring average entering this tournament and won her first collegiate title in the Beavers' last event at the Meadow Club Invitational the last week of February.

True freshman Raya Nakao and junior Madde Sund both posted a 1-over 73 that helped Oregon State stay in the top half of the competitive field. Nakao had three birdies and four bogeys, while Sund rolled in a team tying-best four birdies, to make up for a double-bogey on the par-4 13th hole.

True freshman Kelly Hope finished with a 5-over 77 and fellow true frosh Rebecca Kim, who is competing as an individual, posted a 7-over 79.
