Apr 16, 2024

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – No. 9 Arizona Men's Golf's second round of the Western Intercollegiate saw Pasatiempo Golf Club hit the Wildcats back on Tuesday just one day after being the only team to break par. Arizona left the course in second place at 11-over par with sophomore Filip Jakubcik shooting 2-under 68 to tie for the overall lead for the tournament. The Wildcats sit two strokes behind Stanford heading into Wednesday's finale.

"We hit a rough patch in the middle of our round after a decent start, but I was proud of our guys' composure as they righted the ship in the final holes," said head coach Jim Anderson. "I want to shoutout Zach and Filip for their tremendous rounds to lead us today to put themselves in the top 10 of the leaderboards. We are right in the thick of things for team and individual titles going into the final round, which is where you want to be going into a final round."

Pollo carded an impressive bogey-free round on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under round of 69. The sophomore ended his first two rounds at 1-under and in a tie for 10th place. His teammate Jakubcik fired a 68 for the second straight day to hold a one-stroke edge over Mahanth Chirravuri from Pepperdine to lead all players.

Arizona sits in a crowded pack of teams on the top half of the leaderboard after 36 holes. The Cats will tee off at 12:04 on Wednesday alongside Stanford, Washington and San Diego State, the top four teams in the standings.

The top seven programs atop the standings are separated by a total of seven strokes. The final round of the 2024 Western Intercollegiate will be broadcasted on the Golf Channel and the Peacock app beginning at 4 p.m. (MST).
