Friday Sweep
STANFORD, Calif. – No. 3 Stanford beach volleyball opened the weekend with a strong statement, downing No. 17 Grand Canyon and No. 12 Washington, each by a 5-0 scoreline. The Cardinal improves to 26-3 on the season with the result.
The morning began with a win over the Antelopes, with all five contests going in straight sets. The pairs of Xolani Hodel and Brooke Rockwell and Ruby Sorra and Taylor Wilson turned in identical victories of 21-13, 21-13, with Hodel and Rockwell clinching the result in the top slot.
The second bout of the day included a marathon match in the fourth position, with Kate Reilly and Clara Stowell coming from a one-set deficit before winning in the third set, 39-37. Sorra and Wilson had a dramatic finish of their own, earning the final seven points to win in three sets, 15-12.
The pairs of Daria Gusarova and Ashley Vincent and Kelly Belardi and Chloe Hoffman rounded out the afternoon with 2-0 days of their own.
Stanford returns to action on Saturday, April 20 against California and UC Davis.
