Kulow Named CSC Academic All-American of the Year

TEMPE, Ariz.-- Another academic accolade has been awarded to the Sun Devils as sophomore Jonny Kulow was named the CSC Division-I Academic All-America Team Member of the Year as announced by College Sports Communicators on Wednesday morning.

The Academic All-America program celebrates the combination of athletic and academic achievement. Nominated student-athletes have a cumulative GPA above 3.50 and compete in at least four contests during the season.

Sun Devil Athletics has produced CSC DI Academic All-America Team Member of the Year in each of the past four years. Last year, Turner Washington (Men's Track and Field) earned the honor for the third consecutive year and Jorinde Van Klinken (Women's Track and Field) earned the honor in 2021-22.

Kulow, a sophomore Microbiology major, has achieved a 4.00 GPA during his time as a Sun Devil. In March, he helped the Sun Devil men win their first-ever NCAA Championship as he was a part of each of the two winning relays in the 400 medley and 400 free relays that broke NCAA records. He additionally earned First-Team All-American honors in the 50 free and 200 free relay along with a Second-Team All-American honor in the 100 free.

Earlier that month as the Sun Devil men won back-to-back Pac-12 Championships, Kulow was a part of the winning 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay and 400 free relay. Additionally, he placed third in the 50 free, fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 100 fly.

Kulow also earned six medals at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile as he won the gold in the 400 mixed medley and 400 medley relay along with the silver medal in the 100m free, 4x100 free relay, mixed 4x100 free relay and 50m free. In September, Kulow was named a member of the 2023-24 U.S. National Team.
