Men’s Tennis Advances in Pac-12 Tournament

Apr 25, 2024

OJAI, Calif. – Oregon men's tennis advanced in the Pac-12 Tournament today with a 4-1 win over UCLA.

The Ducks avenged an early-season loss to UCLA with a commanding victory. The No. 7 seeded Ducks came into the match as the higher seed to the No. 3 seeded Bruins, but Oregon felt confident after narrowly falling in the first match against UCLA.

UCLA did secure the first point of the match after two wins on the doubles courts, leaving Oregon at a disadvantage. However, the resilient Ducks quickly got back into the match with sweeps on courts one, three and five. Quinn Vandecasteele again defeated the Bruins No. 1 player, this time in a 6-3, 6-4 sweep. Sophomore Vlad Breazu won his match 6-4, 6-2 and Lenn Luemkemann also won in a sweep, 6-4, 7-5.

Freshman Matthew Burton secured a much-anticipated clinching point, after having a few chances to do so earlier in the season. The Aussie stretched it to three sets, but left no doubt in the third, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.

The Ducks will now face the No. 2 seeded Arizona Wildcats in the semifinals at 4 p.m. PT on Friday in Ojai.
