Raya Nakao Posts 1-Under 71 In Second Round At NCAA Nationals

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Raya Nakao posted a 1-under 71 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the second round of the NCAA Division I National Championships on Saturday.
 
The Beavers knocked four strokes off their first-round score and sit in 21st place with an 18-over 299-295—594 at the par-72, 6,297-yard Omni La Costa Resort & Spa North Course. Oregon State will look to make a move in the third round and finish in one of the top 15 coveted spots.
 
The top 15 teams after Sunday's round will play an additional day of stroke play on Monday to determine the top eight teams for match play competition. The top nine individuals not on an advancing team will also play another round on Monday to determine the 72-hole stroke play individual champion.
 
The third round will begin at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com. The Beavers will start on the 10th hole at 12:22 p.m. and be paired with Michigan State and South Carolina.
 
Nakao, a true freshman from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, had five birdies in the second round and jumped 49 spots up the leaderboard to a tie for 50th place with a 3-over 76-71—147. She has rolled in seven birdies in the 36 holes of championship play.
 
Fifth-year senior Chayse Gomez, from Yorba Linda, Calif., is tied with Nakao in 50th place with a 72-75—147. She had four birdies for the second-straight day and her eight through two rounds is tied for the 13th most in the 151-player field.
 
Kyra Ly, a sophomore from Portland, was 2 over going out but dropped in three birdies coming in to finish with an even-par 72. She moved 37 spots up the leaderboard and is tied for 62nd place with a 4-over 76-72—148.
 
Junior Madde Sund has recorded scores of 75-80 for an 11-over 155 and true freshman Rebecca Kim is a stroke back of Sund with a 12-over 79-77—156.
