Senior Adora Anae was named a first-team All-American, while senior Tawnee Luafalemana and junior Berkeley Oblad both earned honorable mention All-American honors by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the organization announced today.
• STANFORD is making its NCAA-record 21st NCAA semifinal appearance, also making it the 33rd time a Pac-12 team has advanced that far. The third-seeded Cardinal are the defending NCAA Champion, having won its seventh crown last season under the direction of then-head coach John Dunning to tie for the most of any program.
• Nine Pac-12 teams received NCAA Tournament bids, the most of any conference in the country. Five of the teams earned top-16 seeds. It marks the 18th-consecutive years at least six tems have earned tournament berths. League teams went 8-1 in the first round this season, eventually advancing five teams to the round of 16. It marked the 18th time at least three Pac-12 teams reached the regional semifinal round.
The No. 13-ranked Utah Utes went toe-to-toe with the No. 2-ranked Texas Longhorns in the NCAA Regional Semifinal round, but the Longhorns came out on top, winning the match in five sets (25-19, 16-25, 24-26, 25-21, 16-14) Friday evening at Maples Pavilion.
The No. 13-ranked and No. 11 NCAA Tournament-seeded Utah Utes (24-9) will be making its first NCAA Regional Semifinal appearance since 2008 when it faces the No. 2-ranked and No. 6-seeded Texas Longhorns (26-2) this Friday, Dec. 8, at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif.
