No. 10 Washington (2-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before St. Mary's even stepped to the plate, but the host Gaels (3-0) rallied in the middle innings for a 6-5 win in the first game of a four-game series at Louis Guisto Field in Moraga, California.
Washington (2-1) dodged raindrops long enough during its opening weekend to play three games in two days at Santa Clara. The Huskies won twice and lost once, but were unable to get in a scheduled fourth game after being rained out three times over five days. The Huskies move across the Bay to Moraga where they will be hosted by St. Mary's (2-0) for a four-game series starting Thursday and running through Sunday. All four games will be played in the day.
For the third time during their first road series of the year, the Huskies have been postponed. Tuesday's game against Santa Clara was canceled due to poor field conditions and the game will not be made up. The 10th-ranked Huskies ended up winning two-of-three games against the Broncos.
