Team Gold took game one of the Purple and Gold World Series at Husky Ballpark Friday, beating the Purple squad 5-4. The Gold team put runs on the board early in the second inning, and added runs in the third and fifth. Combine with strong pitching, Gold was able to secure the win and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-four series.

For the first time in school history, Washington's group of newcomers for the upcoming 2016 season is ranked among Baseball America's Top-25 Recruiting Rankings, landing 15th on the list. According to national writer Teddy Cahill, the group of newcomers assembled by Coach Lindsay Meggs and his staff is third overall in the Pac-12 Conference.
