Stanford wins 2016 NCAA Championship

STANFORD, the 2016 Pac-12 champion, claimed its 18th NCAA title in women’s tennis and the Conference’s 22nd by defeating No. 12 seed Oklahoma State, 4-3. After dropping the doubles point and facing the 3-1 deficit, the No. 15 seed Cardinal rallied for the win. It was the Cardinal’s fourth win in the NCAA Tournament when losing the doubles point. This is Stanford’s first title since 2013 and the Pac-12’s third in the last four years. No. 1 seed CALIFORNIA made it to the national semifinal but fell short to the Cowgirls.

All-Pac-12 women's tennis teams announced

The Pac-12 Conference announced today the women’s tennis All-Pac-12 honors for the 2016 season, as determined by a polling of the Conference coaches. CALIFORNIA’s Maegan Manasse was voted Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year, while her teammate Olivia Hauger was tabbed Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year. Manasse and her teammate Denise Starr were named Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year. For the second time in her career, ARIZONA STATE head coach Sheila McInerney was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year. The All-Pac-12 teams were also announced.

Pac-12 leads the nation with 10 NCAA titles

For the 15th time in the last 16 years, the Pac-12 Conference led all conferences in NCAA Championships won with its institutions capturing 10 during the 2015-16 campaign, marking the eighth time the Conference has claimed double-digit titles, including two of the last three years.
